June 7th, 2004 by Mark Rittman

"As organizations grow to depend on globally distributed service networks,
their business intelligence (BI) capability must adapt. Here’s how autonomous

I
wrote a few weeks ago
about Oracle’s current business intelligence vision being based around real-time
data warehousing built using materialized views and Oracle 10g’s new
asynchronous change data capture, and

this Infoworld article
puts Oracle’s vision in the context of the other big
vendors’ move to embed analytics in their ERP offerings. You might also remember
Oracle’s announcement last month about
Business Activity
Monitoring
, a new module within Application Server 10g which was described
as being able to "detect, correlate, and analyze separate events such
as RFID scans, bar code readings, or events out of an enterprise application or
a supply-chain process event. Kurian said the the BAM application is unique in
that it can correlate both traditional historical events out of a data warehouse
with real-time events.".
Interesting stuff.
