News And Articles Round Up

It’s been another busy week at work this week, so here’s a round up of some
new articles I’ve come across that I’ve not had time to do a complete write-up
on.
The OLAP Report Market Share
Analysis for 2004 has just been released, with Microsoft extending their
market leadership and Oracle slipping from 4% to 3.4% of the total market for
OLAP servers. Microsoft’s achievement is all the more impressive when you
consider that Analysis Services 2000 is five years old now, and it’ll be
interesting to see what happens
when Analysis Services 2005 comes out towards the end of this year. The
accompanying report does however give some hope that Oracle’s market share will soon be rising again:
"Although the OLAP market is consolidating, it is still much more open
than most enterprise software markets. Microsoft has now clearly overtaken
Hyperion Solutions to become the largest OLAP vendor, but neither could be
called
