Modelling from JDeveloper

November 21st, 2005 by Peter Scott

In a few idle moments I downloaded the CWD4ALL extension to JDeveloper – I guess it is the developer in me that wants to give modelling tools a trial and as the vendor web page mentioned words and phrases such as OLAP, multi-dimensional modelling and Oracle Analytical Workspaces. I thought I would give it a try.

Well I managed to work out to use some bits it – but I am going to admit defeat for now… I’m going to have to ask the vendors for instructions. I’ll write more on this when I get it to work!

Very interesting Pete, I’ll check back and see how you got on with it. From my experience, the only problem with any third-party tools that support Oracle’s BI / OLAP stack is that they quickly get out of date - due to Oracle changing how the products work - and the vendor never keeps their products updated. For example, the IAF Software tools (Vista/Coaster), VSS Business Analyzer, Qubeview etc became obsolete when Oracle introduced AW/XML and BI Beans 10g. Oracle keep moving the product spec and you usually need to completely rewrite your tool.

    Hello Pete,

    This is Rene from Ikan.

We will publish soon a getting started for CWD4ALL as a JDeveloper extension. I’ll keep you informed.

Also to Mark: support for Oracle products is key for us and is a number one priority.
I agree with you that we need our products up to date with Oracle and I assure you we will!

    Regards,

    Rene
