OTN Article on XML Publisher 5.6.2 Enterprise
June 2nd, 2006 by Mark Rittman
My latest article for OTN, on
Oracle XML Publisher 5.6.2 Enterprise, is now online. In the article I talk
about the new features in the Enterprise version of XML Publisher, and walk
through the process of defining a report, laying out the template using
Microsoft Word and then uploading the report to the Web.

I also take a look at the Analyzer feature, which gives you the ability to
build dynamic, "pivot table-style" reports using your report data, as well as
security and scheduling.

I like the drop shadow effect on your pics, how do you do that.

Mark,
Do you think XML Publisher could deputize as a mail merge application (in lieu of the Word functionality)?

I’m not able to login on your forum page (or Weblog page). The message I’m getting is as follows:
“Sorry, but your password cannot be retrieved because your account is currently inactive. Please contact the forum administrator for more information.”

At the same time, I could not find any link to contact the forum admin. My username:

Hi,
Thanks for this very interesting article.
I’ve seen from an other post that you can get the XML to analyze from a webservices but how is this solution compatible with XML stored in the database ?
Do you have any good/bad experience with storing/retrieving XML in a database ?
Thanks

Oliver,
None of the demos that come with XMLP 5.6.2 use XML stored in the database, the only way they use XML is either via HTTP or via a webservice, as you note.
I haven’t had a chance to try out XML stored in the database, although presumably it shouldn’t be difficult to do. Can I suggest you try the XML Publisher forum at:
http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=245
and Tim Dexter’s XML Publisher blog at:
http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/
where you might be able to get an answer.
cheers

Yes, XMLP can act as a mail-merge program, in fact one of the demos it comes with is a mail-merge application. Just download XMLP Desktop and Enterprise and work through the included demos.
