Starting Preparations for Oracle Open World 2006

June 27th, 2006 by Mark Rittman

Tim Hall mentioned the other day
that our complementary Oracle Open World
full conference passes came through, courtesy of the Oracle ACE program, which
was rather nice.

As both Tim and I are paying for ourselves to go over, we’re trying to keep
to a reasonable budget and therefore we’re staying in the
King George Hotel, just off
of Union Square. Under the Oracle group discount, it’s $149 per night which is
pretty reasonable - you can easily spend $300 or more if you want to. One or two
of you might remember that

I stayed there the first time I went to Open World
- it’s pretty basic
actually but close to Union Square, the shops, trams and so on, and there’s some
good delis and diners next door which makes eating out quite cheap. Anyway, if
anyone else we know is coming along (Andrew Clarke mentioned he might book there
as well) then why not book yourself in there as well, if you’re from Europe we
can keep each other company on the first couple of days when we all wake up at
5.00am and head out of the hotel looking for some breakfast. The other amusing
thing with the hotel is that it’s "British Themed" which means they have High
Tea in the afternoon, if you’re feeling a bit homesick.

I’ve also got a couple of papers submitted for Open World - one through ODTUG
on how the new Oracle BI Server works (query processing, caching, semantic
layer, tuning and so on), one direct through Oracle on using Oracle BI Answers,
BI Dashboard and BI Delivers to deliver "next generation" reporting. Hopefully
at least one will get accepted, although it might be nice actually to just go
along and be a spectator for once. Along with the other ACEs, there’ll be an
ACEs appreciation dinner, and a "meet the experts" session in the OTN Lounge
later in the week. Add to this the fact that Oracle 11g should be in beta by
Open World, and there’ll be 40,000+ delegates, it should be good conference.

Now you’ve gone an done it. All the groupies and paparatzis will be hanging around outside the hotel day and night. :) Cheers
    Tim…

Presumably waiting for a glimpse of Mark’s new buffed bod :P

  3. Michael Armstrong-Smith Says:

I’m afraid I cannot attend because my wife’s birthday in on the 14th and I promised to take her to Mexico. I’ll be thinking of you though and will be watching out for your conference blog postings.
    Best wishes
    Michael

  4. Kent Graziano Says:

I got my ACE invite as well and hope to attend (pending a waiver on our travel freeze). I will try to book at the King George as well.
