Reminder – Oracle OOW2K6 Blogger Meetup
October 24th, 2006 by Mark Rittman
Just a short reminder that we’re holding an Oracle Blogger meetup at the Thirsty Bear bar and restaurant, from 7.00pm onwards on Tuesday, October 24th. If you’ve got an Oracle blog, please feel free to come along, we’ll be there from 7.00pm onwards and hopefully it should be an interesting evening. FYI, the Thirsty Bear is just one block down from Moscone South, the opposite direction from Moscone West.

Rittman,
Your blog redesign really needs a lot of work. The content is great as usual but you are not utilizing WordPress properly. Please clean up the blog when you get back to the UK. The Blog does not display properly on IE or Mozilla.
Also San Francisco, while an ok city…is no more representative of the USA as Bolton or Liverpool would be representative of the entire nation of England.
Thus although you may know your way around the small 4 block radius of the Moscone center….you have about 3.5 million more miles, 1200 cities, 51 states and about 301 million more citizens to meet before you can talk about “knowing” the entire USA.
Next trip how about going someplace other that San Francisco and then blog about how well you know the USA.

I’m sure Mark’s far too polite to reply to this so I’ll step in on his behalf. This year alone Mark has attended Collaborate (Nashville) and ODTUG Kaleidoscope (Wastington DC). Of course that is still far short of the twelve hundred cities you deem necessary to a knowledge of the US. But apart from the guy in the Johnny Cash song, who has done that? Have you?
Cheers, APC

Edward, is that normally how you talk to people? I’m sure your comments are meant constructively, but addressing someone by their surname, telling me to clean up my site when I get back and then pedantically picking me up on a turn of phrase, well it doesn’t get you off to a good start.
In terms of the site, I’m working on a Mac and it displays fine in both Firefox and Safari. Last time I looked it worked fine on IE, but I haven’t got a copy to hand to test it out. Perhaps there was something up with a particular page when you accessed the site, but anyway I’ll take a look when I get back.
As Andrew said, this year I’ve been to Washington, Nashville and SF twice; I’m not saying I know all of the USA (I presume you do, though), I was merely pointing out that now, it does not seem such a strange place. Next time I make such an off-the-cuff remark though, I’ll check back with you beforehand to make sure it’s alright.
regards
Mark

“The Blog does not display properly on IE or Mozilla.”
Well apart from being an insufferably rude twit, you really should get your facts right. I use both browsers on different machines and the blog looks fine.
Of course, with so many words and opinions, I’m sure you could flesh out the detail a little?
“you have about 3.5 million more miles, 1200 cities, 51 states and about 301 million more citizens to meet before you can talk about “knowing” the entire USA.”
And you have about 32 years growing up to do before you could be ‘mistaken’ for someone worth listening to.

Heath. I thought you died last year. Obviously not. Pity.
