Oracle Data Integrator (aka Sunopsis) Now On OTN

I’ve been away for a few days, but when I got back tonight I noticed that Oracle Data Integrator, formerly known as Sunopsis Data Conductor and the subject of a number of my blog postings late last year, is now available for download on OTN. Data Integrator differs from Warehouse Builder in that it sits in the Fusion Middleware/SOA Suite product family rather than Database, it supports data extraction and loading to and from heterogeneous platforms, it’s SOA-enabled, splits data mappings into business rules and platform/load-type specifics, and is extensible through the use of “knowledge modules”. Like Warehouse Builder though, it’s built using Java and uses the target database server as the ETL engine, transforming data after you extract and load it and using set-based operations where possible.

The Data Integrator OTN homepage has got a whole bunch on information, demos and user guides on Oracle’s newest ETL tool, including a Getting Started Tour, documents on architecture, metadata management, change data capture and data integrity. There’s also an OTN Forum where the product team are taking questions, and Tug Grall recently posted instructions on his blog on how to get it up and running on Mac OS X.

The timing’s pretty good on this, as I’ve just had a paper accepted on Data Integrator for the forthcoming ODTUG Kaleidoscope 2007 event in Florida, and I’m waiting on the yes or no for a similar paper for the EOUC event. It’ll be interesting to see how the product gets taken up, and how Oracle move it and OWB forward given the functional overlap between the products.     In their press release on the Sunopsis purchase, they mentioned that it would be merged into the OWB product AND Fusion Middleware. I wonder if they are no longer planning to integrate with OWB?

    Hi Mark,

    We are working on an integration POC using LKM FILE TO ORACLE USING EXTERNAL TABLE. I have logged this in otn.oracle.com (http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=2166263&#2166263) but no luck so far. Would be great if you can have any insight on this.
