Getting Up and Running with Essbase Part 2

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007 by Mark Rittman

Yesterday I looked at installing Hyperion Shared Services, as a prerequisite step for installing Hyperion Essbase. Today, I’m going to install the Essbase tools proper, so that tomorrow I can start pulling some data into an Essbase cube.
The install guide for Hyperion System 9 suggests installing the Essbase tools in the following order:

Flying Back from New Zealand

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007 by Mark Rittman

Well, that’s it for now, I’m waiting in the airport to catch my flight back to the UK, after running the last of the BI seminars in Auckland yesterday. Another good turnout, a very nice audience made up of customers and partners, and the seminar itself went pretty smoothly given that it’s the third time […]

Getting Up and Running with Essbase Part 1

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007 by Mark Rittman

Now that I’ve got a bit of spare time (and a 24 hour flight ahead of me), I thought it was about time I got to grips with Essbase and the various Hyperion tools now available for download on http://edelivery.oracle.com. Essbase, like Oracle OLAP, is an OLAP server that stores data multi-dimensionally and provides support […]

Off to Qatar and some ranting

Friday, September 21st, 2007 by Borkur Steingrimsson

So, I just settled in to my first-ever trip to Qatar. I took an SN-Brussels flight earlier this evening out to Manchester and now I am sitting in the Qatar Airways A320-300 getting ready to take off. Qatar Airways has a fantastic reputation so I must say I am quite excited to experience their in-flight […]

Two Days in Sydney

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007 by Mark Rittman

I’m just packing up my stuff now, about to leave the Sydney Harbour Marriott and fly over to Auckland later on today. Like Melbourne, Sydney went really well, a really nice audience, good turnout (25) and a good venue. It’s been really nice doing the seminars over here - for most people, BIEE is fairly […]

Fixing up performance

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007 by Peter Scott

Last week I mentioned one of the reasons why DW performance drops, users start to use different queries.
One of my customers had a design principle that ‘raw data’ should look like it’s source. So where we had a feed of invoice headers and invoice lines (the classic master / detail, two table approach: the who […]

My topic today is…

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007 by Peter Scott

Business Objects, which may seem a bit of odd choice from someone who writes mainly about data warehouse design and often Oracle. True I can, and do do the whole BI piece, but again, my preferences are heavily Oracle infused.
Business Objects has hit the press a few times in recent days. First, the French press […]

A Potted History of Oracle BI Suite Enterprise Edition

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007 by Mark Rittman

I’ve been doing a bit of research on the history of Oracle’s BI tools, for the keynote I’m doing at the BIWA event next month, and in particular I’ve been taking a look back at the history of what is now Oracle BI Suite Enterprise Edition, previously known as Siebel Analytics. Here’s what I’ve found […]

First Seminar in Melbourne

Monday, September 17th, 2007 by Mark Rittman

Well that’s the first one done then, and I’m pleased to say I think it went fairly well. The event was held at a training centre just a couple of blocks away from my hotel, just over the river, and I bumped into one of the delegates down by the lifts who recognized me and […]

Arrived in Melbourne

Sunday, September 16th, 2007 by Mark Rittman

Just a quick posting before I wander over to the training center for the first seminar. I arrived in Melbourne yesterday morning about 9.30am, about 30 hours since I left Heathrow on Friday. This is the second time I’ve been in Australia, and again I can’t help wondering why everyone in Britain doesn’t just move […]
