A quick comment about the new partitioning features in 11g. I agree that interval partitioning will help make partition maintenance a thing of the past, and I quickly see a lot of uses for the virtual column partitioning. But I was disappointed when I looked further into REF partitioning. At first sight, this seemed like the data warehouse developers dream... having dimension tables partition along with the fact table's scheme. However, it doesn't work with the standard dimensional model. REF partitioning allows a table with a foreign key relationship to another table to be partitioned along with that table. But the reverse is needed in the fact-dimension relationship: we need to be able to partition the table with the primary key according to the scheme of a table with a foreign key relationship to it.

Maybe in 11gR2...

The OWB stuff in the database is huge though... no doubt about that.
