Can you explain the concept of qualified Misses and unqualified misses of cache in OBIEE?

Hi Mark,

My question is with regards to the the post "Migrating OBIEE Projects Between DEV and PROD Environments". As i am not bale to comment there i am writing here. Sorry for that.

Question: Is there any way to log the things happening when we use the nQUDMLGEN.exe and nQUDMLExe.exe so that we have a way to analyze things if our migration is unsucessful? Is there any way to log things happening in the whole migration process(though simple things like copy paste is happening)to keep track of so that in the future we are able to refer to what has happend and how things were migrated.

Hi Scott,

Sorry for the delay in replying, I wanted to take a look at the Usage Tracking feature before I replied, it's something I was "aware" of before but not something I'd properly looked at.

I've written up my observations here:

http://www.rittmanmead.com/2008/10/11/comparing-obiee-usage-tracking-with-nqsquerylog/

Basically, as you say it's very interesting and in particular, a good way of gathering background statistics on query performance. Where I think it lacks, compared to the log file, is that it doesn't record the physical SQL and MDX issued to the underlying databases, also if you're being a bit geeky it also doesn't record the logical execution plan or the intermediate row counts. Thanks for pointing it out to me though, it made me take a look and factor it into my tuning plans.

regards, Mark

@Surya
Take a look at BI Applications Installation and configuration guide and in particular chapter 6 in Integrated Security - there is a description of how to use the roles and responsibilities of EBS

Hi Mark,
Is there any way we can import EBS users to into OBIEE repsitory. I have a requirement where in we are using single sign on integration from EBS to OBIEE dashboards and we have to implement data level security for huge amount of EBS users(20,000). Is there any other way rather than creating all these users in repository is assigning them to groups...

Thanks

Hey Mark, you'll also want to check out the help topics on "usage tracking" in OBIEE. Basically, instead of writing to a log file, you can drop it directly into database tables. Also it breaks up the timings a bit into how long the queries took on the server, vs. how long the total OBIEE query took start to finish, etc.

A bit easier to get to than trying to go through log files.

Hope this helps!
