Rittman Mead - Delivered Intelligence

ODTUG have just announced that next year’s conference, ODTUG Kaleidoscope 2010, will be held in Washington D.C. from June 27th – July 1st 2010, and the call for papers is now open.

My first ever Kaleidoscope was in Washington back in 2006, and this is where I met Borkur Steingrimsson who went on to become our first employee when we formed Rittman Mead the year after. Kaleidoscope in Washington seems to correspond with World Cup year; the one in 2006 was when the World Cup was in Japan and this time, it’s when then World Cup is in South Africa, which means I’ll have to be in the hotel bar early in the morning to catch England’s games. Anyway…

This year, Kent Graziano and myself are really looking to make the BI&DW stream something special, and take a leaf out of the Hyperion SIG’s book and try and lay on a well structured, well thought out agenda. By the time that Kaleidoscope comes around we should have the 11g release of OBIEE out, maybe the 11g release of ODI, we’ve already got the 11gR2 version of OWB and of course the 11gR2 version of the database. If you liked the idea of our BI Forum in Brighton last year but couldn’t make it over from the States, or if you’ve from further afield and fancy a trip to Washington, and you’ve got an interesting story to tell about Oracle BI or DW, put in an abstract proposal and hopefully we’ll see you there.

We are particularly looking for papers on

• Oracle BI EE 11g and OWB 11gR2 new features and functionality
• Oracle BI internals, hidden features, tips and tricks
• BI and DW performance optimization, clustering, high availability
• Oracle BI integration with EPM, SOA etc
• Migration from Discoverer, Portal, Reports etc

We’re also keen to have a data warehousing stream next year, hopefully we can dedicate a day, or a stream during the conference, to data warehousing, Exadata and so on. If you’re looking to present on:

• Data Warehouse design (logical and physical
• Exadata and Database Machine experiences, best practices, design approach
• Data warehouse tuning and optimization
• The new DW features in 11gR2 (in-memory parallel query, columnar compression etc

we’d be most interested in hearing from you. If you’d also like to help with organizing the event, helping to shape or run the various stream and/or judge the papers, let me know and we’d be glad to have your support. Note that the abstract process closes on October 27th, so you’ll need to get thinking about things soon.
