ESR On The Art Of Unix Programming

Eric S. Raymond, he of "The Cathedral And The Bazaar" and "The New Hackers Dictionary" (good), as well as holder of some mad pro-gun and libertarian views (not so good), has a new book out called "The Art Of Unix Programming". According to the book's web page;

"The Art of Unix Programming attempts to capture the engineering wisdom and philosophy of the Unix community as it's applied today — not merely as it has been written down in the past, but as a living "special transmission, outside the scriptures" passed from guru to guru. Accordingly, the book doesn't focus so much on "what" as on "why", showing the connection between Unix philosophy and practice through case studies in widely available open-source software."

True to his principles, Eric has made the full text of the book available under a Creative Commons license, and you can browse the book here. Alternatively, you can support Eric and buy the book at Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk.
