Falling Apart

Just a short note to anyone who's tried to post a comment recently. Unfortunately the engine behind this site (Moveable Type 3.17) is falling apart somewhat, due to some ongoing problems with mySQL drivers and a recent upgrade from 2.64 that I think went wrong somewhere.

What this means is that you may well get an Internal Server error when you post a comment, but the comment itself does get through - the problem is in the mechanism that publishes the comment and refreshes the relevant pages. Also, with the move to 3.17, comments are now moderated and they have to be "approved" by me before they get published. I hadn't actually wanted moderation to be turned on, but due to the botched upgrade I can't seem to turn this feature off...

When I get some spare time (I'm still working away from home most of the time at present) I'm going to redo the upgrade, and maybe give the site an overhaul as well. A couple of people have mentioned that the page width is all shot up, and certainly the HTML behind the page is about as non-standards compliant as you could get - it probably only displays OK because modern browsers will display more or less any broken HTML, thankfully (at least for me anyway). In the meantime, bear with me, and if you get an Internal Server error when posting a comment, don't panic, your comment will get through, it's just that part of the blogging engine is a bit broken at present.
