My Oracle Open World 2006 Agenda
I've just been putting my agenda together for next month's Oracle Open World in San Francisco, and there's a lot of good content around BI Suite Enterprise Edition in this year's event. My guess is that this Open World will be where the next version of the Oracle Database will be announced - Oracle 11g probably? - and there'll no doubt be some more news on the upcoming version of BI Suite Enterprise Edition, codenamed "Maui" and due for release by the end of this year (hopefully). Anyway, here's my agenda:
Sunday October 22
- 3.30pm - 5.00pm : "Inside Oracle Business Intelligence Server", Mark Rittman : Hilton Hotel Sutter A/B - my presentation at the User Group Forum, 1.5 hour "deep dive" into the server that powers the new BI Suite Enterprise Edition. I should still have jet-lag at this point so at least it'll be entertaining.
Monday October 23rd
- 9.30am - 10.30am : "Oracle Executive Keynote", Chuck Rozwat, Hall D - possibly the announcement of Oracle Database 11g?
- 11.00am - 12.00pm : "The Future of Database Technology, from Oracle Development", Andy Mendolsohn, Moscone South 104 - possible follow-up to Chuck Rozwat's keynote?
- 12.30pm - 1.30pm : "Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing in the Next Major Release of Oracle Database", George Lumpkin, Moscone South 300 - should be good.
- 2.30pm - 2.45pm : Partner Keynote, Michael Dell, Hall D
- 3.15pm - 4.15pm : "Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition Tips and Tricks", Kurt Wolff, Moscone South 301 - probably the presentation I'm most looking forward to, indeed I'm missing Tom Kyte's only presentation to attend this one. Kurt is one of the original nQuire guys and (I think) was/is the chief technologist around Siebel Analytics. Definately knows his stuff and one not to miss.
- 4.45pm - 5.45pm : "Oracle's Business Intelligence Road Map", Paul Rodwick, Moscone South 301 - I've been to several of these BI roadmap talks this year (Collaborate'06, ODTUG etc) but it's worth going along, to pick up any changes in product timings/packaging/strategy. Things change so often around product strategy that you need to keep up with these sorts of presentations.
Tuesday October 24th
- 9.15am - 10.15am : "Oracle Executive Keynote", Thomas Kurian, Hall D - should be useful for news on Project Fusion, Fusion Middleware, the new BI Suite Enterprise Edition.
- 10.45am - 11.45pm : "Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition Architectural Overview", Matt Elumba, Moscone South 301 - obviously very interesting, essential along with Kurt Wolff's session.
- 12.15am - 1.15pm : "Better Enterprise Reporting with Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher", Mike Donohue, Moscone South 302 - the first outing for the re-badged XML Publisher. I wonder if their are new BI integration features in it (integration with Discoverer?) and how it will be packaged/licensed?
- 1.45pm - 2.45pm : "Best Practices for Implementing Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition", Ed Suen, Moscone South 301 - again, should be good.
- 4.30pm - 5.30pm : "Oracle Analytic Applications Road Map", Chris Leone, Moscone West 3002 - maybe news on the integration of PeopleSoft EPM, Oracle DBI / EPB etc and Siebel-Oracle Analytic Applications?
- 8.00pm - 12.00am : Oracle Open World Appreciation Event, Cow Palace
Wednesday October 25th
- 10.00 - 10.45 - "Partner Keynote", Jonathan Schwartz, Sun Microsystems, Hall D - the first Sun keynote since Scott McNealy stood down - will Schwartz have the same impact?
- 11.30 - 12.30 : "What's New in Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition 10.1.3.2?", Dave Granholm, Moscone South 301 - I heard Dave present at Open World, again ex-nQuire/Siebel and a very knowledgable product manager. Expect to hear the full news on Maui in this session.
- 1.00pm - 2.00pm : Larry Ellison Keynote, Hall D - somewhat underwhelming last year, but still worth attending if only for the glitz and theatre.
- 2.30pm - 3.30pm : "Next-Generation Oracle Database Performance and Scalability: A Sneak Preview", Sushil Kumar, Moscone South 103 - another look at what's coming in 11g.
- 5.30pm - 6.30pm : "The Making of the World's Fastest and Most Scalable Database: A Look Under the Hood of Oracle Database 10g", Sushil Kumar, Moscone South 104 - hopefully a look at some architectural choices made by Oracle rather than a marketing piece, sounds interesting.
Thursday October 26th
- 8.00am - 9.00am : "Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Standard Edition Discoverer 10g Best Practices", Mike Donohue, Moscone South 302 - what sort of time do you call this? We wouldn't even have gone to bed yet at the UKOUG conference. Anyway, a good complement to all the BI Suite EE best practice presentations also this week.
- 9.30am - 10.30am : "AstraZeneca's Successful Global Deployment of Siebel Analytics 7.8", Aaron De Los Reyes, Moscone South 301 - A Siebel Analytics / BI Suite EE case study, should be good.
- 11am - 12.00pm : "Managing Advanced Data Warehouse Concepts with Oracle Warehouse Builder 10g Release 2", Jean-Pierre Djicks, Moscone South 301 - A case study in conjunction with Elizabeth Arden on using some of the more advanced ETL features in OWB10gR2
- 12.30pm - 1.30pm : "Using Analytics to Compete More Effectively, Improve Sales Execution, and Maximize Revenue", Erik Lindquist. Moscone West 3018 - looks like it's about the packaged versions of Siebel's analytic applications (Sales Force Analytics etc), which should complement the platform talks well
- 2.00pm - 3.00pm : "Oracle Discoverer Future: Protect, Extend, Integrate", Mike Durran, Moscone South 300 - not to miss. Product directions, integration with BI Publisher and Enterprise Edition. Mike's also from the UK and a good guy. Not sure about "Protect, Extend, Integrate", sounds a bit too much like these chaps for my liking
- 3.30pm - 4.30pm : "Get More Value from SAP BW with Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition", Alan Lee, Moscone South 301 - I'll be doing well if I make it through to this session, but SAP BW support in Maui is supposed to be one of the key new features, so it'll be worth going along and taking notes.
- 4.30pm - 6.30pm : "Oracle OpenWorld Party - IT'S A WRAP! Sponsored by Network Appliance, Inc."
Apart from these events, I'll also try and arrange an Oracle blogger meet-up one of the nights - so far Sunday night, Monday night and Wednesday night look best, although OTN and Oracle will probably be organizing some sort of Oracle ACE dinner one of those nights so I'll need to avoid the clash. My preference is to do it earlier rather than later so Sunday or Monday will probably be the one. More news to follow.
