Looking forward to 2011, and News on Events

Well it's back-to-work time now in the UK, and for myself and for Rittman Mead it's looking like an exciting few months coming up.

First off, we announced just before the holiday break an additional set of dates for our OBIEE 11g Training Days event. This time, we're running our OBIEE 11g Training Days event in Atlanta, Brussels, Johannesburg and Bangalore, and full details are on the event website. Based on feedback and suggestions from the last run of the event, we're moving the installation into "before-class" labs, freeing up more time in the event itself for the main labs and also for an additional lesson on OBIEE 11g security. There are hands-on labs for anyone who wants to bring along a suitable laptop and their own copy of the software. Also, this time around if you're struggling to come up with suitable hardware, we also have an option where you can rent a hosted environment (via Rackspace) which you'll then be able to access via Microsoft RDC and the internet. If you're interested in coming, drop us an email at [email protected], but make sure you do so soon as places sold out weeks in advance last time.

I'm also speaking at a number of Oracle University, and user group events over the next few months. Unlike the Training Days event these are seminar-style rather than hands-on, but they typically cover a wider range of products than the Training Days event and are great if you want to spend more time listening, and discussing. Also, I've now official started writing the Oracle Press OBIEE Developers Handbook ;-) I'm now scheduled to deliver the fourteen chapters over the next twelve months, and I'm pleased to announce that Mike Durran, one of the OBIEE product managers, has agreed to be the technical editor. Keep an eye on this site, and on Twitter (@markrittman) for news as writing progresses.

Finally - keep a look out over the next week for initial details of the Rittman Mead BI Forum 2011. I'll be announcing dates in the next week or so, and soliciting your ideas on topics we should be covering and speakers we should approach. This year's event will be bigger and better than before, and we'll be giving priority to attendees of previous events and readers of this blog. Stay tuned.
