Chivas - Migration to Oracle Analytics Cloud

The Challenge

Chivas Brothers embarked on a decommissioning activity from its data centres. Previously, Chivas Brothers were utilising Oracle’s high performance Exalytics platforms with OBIEE and Essbase installed. Development & Disaster Recovery were hosted on one environment based in their Kilmalid Data Centre and a Production environment for OBIEE and Essbase was hosted and based in their Paisley Data Centre. Following the decommissioning, the Exalytics boxes were no longer required, and Rittman Mead and Chivas Brothers discussed options for the replatforming of OBIEE and Essbase.

OBIEE and Essbase were connected to an on-premises Oracle Data Warehouse. Rittman Mead worked closely with Chivas brothers and Oracle to discuss options for re-platforming, including the pros and cons of keeping the service on-premises and looking at the benefits of moving each of the applications to the Oracle Cloud.

Following a collaborative exercise to determine success factors and test them against a pilot running on the Oracle Cloud, it was decided that Oracle Analytics and Essbase would be migrated to the Cloud and Oracle’s Autonomous Datawarehouse (ADW) would be implemented to enable Chivas Brothers to benefit from the high performance it was used to with Exalytics.

Our Approach

Rittman Mead completed two separate migrations for Chivas Brothers of Oracle Analytics Cloud and Essbase. Following a proven methodology that has been designed over a number of years and through many successful migrations, this was done in an efficient and timely manner ensuring knowledge transfer to Chivas Brothers’ team along the way. Rittman Mead helped to move their user authentication to Oracle Identity Cloud Service (IDCS) and also helped troubleshoot and resolve some security issues that were experienced during the project.
